Sep 09, 2009  DDOS programs for mac? I have a sever running and I am trying to test the bandwidth of it by sending it many requests at once to see how much it can handle, and I have a macbook. Do you know any DDOS programs for OSX? A basic DOS/DDOS attack can be done with a built in program for Windows, Mac and Linux called PING. I wrote about how to do such an attack awhile back. However as many of my readers have pointed out using just the PING tool alone is not a very good idea. I was wondering if there are any DDoS defences where a (any) router will block all packets (for any period of time) from the MAC address of its attacker. If so, under what circumstances would this occur?

Blocking by IP address is not generally used as a DDoS defence, as typically the network is already being loaded by this point, so blocking or dropping packets here offers little value.

In reality, the closer to the attackers you can mitigate the DDoS the more protection you can give, which is why Prolexic, Akamai and similar can offer effective mitigation services.

Blocking by MAC address, as @Iain pointed out, would be even less useful, as if you know their MAC address then they should be on the same network as you:-)

MAC addresses do not cross routers. Each time a router accepts an IP packet the lower layer is stripped (e.g Ethernet Frame). Mac addresses only apply to your local network.

If you are being DDoS on your local network, then login to your switch and disable the ports, or walk over to the computers and shut them down.

DDos – Distributed Denail of Service Attack

Every web server has it’s own capacity of handling requests at a particular time. A DDos can be occured when a web server or a system gets so many requests at one time which it can’t handle, then the system hangs or shuts down automatically. This results in a website is crashed or temporary down. When a website becomes a victim of DDos attack, it looses all it’s allotted bandwidth which makes the website server temporary down. Overloading a network or flooding a web server by sending huge amount of requests at a time results disconnection of data transmission between a server and a user. Thus a website goes to temporary down state or faces server unavailable problem due to DDos a website. Until the system administrator analyses all the requests, it is impossible to filter attackers’ request.

There are several ways to DDos a website. I mention here command line manually DDos and automatically DDos using free tool techniques.

Method #1: How to DDos a Website Manually Using Windows Command Prompt

1. Select a small website that you want to DDos attack.
2. Find the IP address of the website. To find the IP address of a specific website just use the following command:

9. Under the ‘Port’ field, change the value of the port of the targeted website. In most of the cases the value ’80’ should work.
10. Under ‘Method’, from the drop-down list, select UDP option.
11. Uncheck the ‘Wait for reply’ check box.
12. Change the thread value to 20 if you have a good computer. Otherwise, keep the value to 10.
13. Press the “IIMA CHARGIN MAH LAZER” button.
